“Mischief Makers” is a contemporary comedy written by Ivana Dimic. It adopts characters from Jovan Jovanovic Zmaj’s poetry for children: Pura Moca, unprepared Ana, Ludi Tola (Crazy Tola), Lenji Gasa (Lazy Gasha), Laza mommy’s little son. The play tells a story about naughty children and their strict and unfair teacher. It is set in 1878, in Belgrade. The Teacher, being warned that the School Inspector is about to pay a visit to his school, starts beating and punishing children. That makes them become real bullies, they steal his school register, lie to him and, in nutshell, they engage in all sorts of mischief. In the end, justice wins, but only just, and the comedy warns us that children are good unless we spoil them.
