About the Play
The Centre for Development of Inclusive Society (Centar za razvoj inkluzivnog društva – CRID) is an organization created with the intention to assist in the realization of full inclusion of persons with disabilities, by respect of their human rights and their freely chosen education, employment, right to have a family and free time. Through cooperation on various projects, the team of CRID got the book titled About a Button and Happiness as a gift from its authoress, Jasminka Petrovic, who writes for children. Little Theatre Dusko Radovic, as an example of good practice as far as accessibility is concerned, was the CRID’s natural first choice to be its partner for this unique inclusive performance which will offer answers to doubts anyone might have about the phenomenon of disabilities.
If you have thought for a moment that this is a play about a poor boy with a handicap, you are terribly wrong. Jovan is here not to make you sad, but to give you joy. He does not give rise to pity, but admiration. He teaches us to be honest and brave. He raises questions of equality and difference. He forces us to question ourselves and finally, takes us to Miljakovac, that is, to New Zealand.
