VIII TIBA FESTIVAL

I ta koncepcija diše.
Na sreću. Našu i Vašu.
(I mi ćemo!)

Nikola Zavišić, selektor

Selector`s Note

Short forms - large contents
Perhaps a good subtitle of this year's TIBA Festival could be DESPITE!
Here comes TIBA Number 8! It comes DESPITE everything. When I say "despite" I think of all possible and impossible problems we came across in our efforts to keep our Festival alive. And to have it going, DESPITE everything. And not just that, but we managed to even make a step forward in our eight-year-long life. This is a true success, for real. The fact that we managed to make a step forward, DESPITE everything.
This year we have gathered around an idea that a theater for children and young people can be an active participant in creating the future of the country we live in, i.e. the little and young audience it addresses. In that context, we have prepared contents that are above all socially aware and that address the audience with an idea of cognitive interaction. The plays that we offer in our program for this year deal with serious topics in direct connection with the notion of growing up in the surroundings of our everyday life. That way we wish to activate our audience, and offer a dialogue and exchange of experiences, maybe even provoke into getting involved in the flaming issues of growing up, puberty, violence among the young, creativity, arts, etc.
LESS IS MORE - could be another subtitle of the Festival.
This refers to the most plays in the main program as well as in the showcase program of the Festival. These are plays that are technically not overweight, that offer no beautifying of reality only to meet the requirements of form - plays are short, yet pure and straightforward, and amicable toward the audience. In our case, for sure, LESS IS MORE.
And this concept breaths.
To a great joy. Both ours and yours.
So, here is what we get by combining the two new subtitles -
Less is more DESPITE all!
Therefore, try to go through our short forms carefully, in order to grasp the large contents, and step into, together with us, a new wave of the TIBA Festival, which in its eighth edition moves in a new and fresh direction.
Enjoy! (We will for sure!)

O predstavi

About the play

The first TV show "Letter by Letter" went on air from 1963 to 1965. The video clippings of this series, directed by Vera Belogrlić, in black and white, have not been saved due to technical reasons, since the program then went live. We only have 13 half-hour shows that were recorded during the 1970s in color. The idea for the musical "Letter by Letter" came in the summer of 2009. It is said that one night the director, Darijan Mihajlović, sitting in a tavern on one of the islands of the Adriatic Sea, called the composer, Aleksandar Sanja Ilić, who was at the time also in a tavern, but in one of the bays of the Adriatic Sea, on another side of the border, and told him about the idea for a spectacular musical. Surely the idea was accepted instantly and with great enthusiasm. Not much time passed since then, but it is certain that one hot and humid summer night "is to blame" that in the years to come we, who have watched the serial "Letter by Letter", will be able to enjoy this production, as well as our children.

O predstavi

About the play

The play "The Lord of the Flies" is set based on motifs of the classic novel of the British Nobel Prize winner William Golding, and treats the ever-present theme of violence among children. Ever since its first rehearsal, this play carries a specific weight, partly for its famous title, partly for the fact that the cast includes students of elementary and high schools, students of the Acting School of Nenad Nenadović. They are assisted "only" by Nenad Nenadović and Ivan Jevtović in alternation. An integral part of this play is the conversation with the audience, in which the authors and actors of the play, the dramaturge and the psychologist take part.

O predstavi

About the play

German playwright Lutz Hübner is today one of the most important German writers for children and young people. "The Heart of a Boxer" is one of the most famous early works of this author.
This theater piece has been performed around the world many times, and has received excellent reviews and acknowledgements. Thus it slowly enters the circle of classic German pieces for young people, because its essence is ever-current, as is the fight against violence and aggression felt by many young people.
All this is slowly revealed in the play between a young delinquent full of hatred and aggression and an old boxing champion who lived through all that a long time ago and survived with optimism.
His whole life, the old boxer lived on a borderline between violence and sports, and now he is trying to help a young man full of hatred to find a better way and happiness in life.
In our society today, violence among young people is a topic very frequently discussed. Violence in schools, on the streets, in the families. Violence, as a negative concept, is an integral part of our present day and our society, whether we would like so or not. Aggression is our reality. Where is the salvation, and how can we fight against this negative emotion? The only solution is to talk about it openly, at least in the way that the old boxer and the young delinquent are doing. And Theater is an ideal place for open discussion.

igraju/cast: Maša Dakić, Jelena Petrović, Jelena Ilić, Damjan Kecojević, Miloš Anđelković, Dušica Sinobad, Miloš Samolov

O predstavi

About the play

Spring Awakening is probably one of the most important dramatic texts ever written, owing to its undoubted literary value and enormous stage potential, which is why this play is continuously present at repertoires of most diverse theaters all over the world ever since the moment it was written - and it has undergone many stage adaptations in all theater genres, from drama to musical.
In the play set at the Little Theatre Duško Radović, directed by Anja Suša, this famous text was approached as a template that relates to a young audience problematizing the always present themes of sexuality, generation relations and searching for own identity. As a dramaturge on the project, we have Irena Kraus, a dramaturge of Dramaten in Stockholm, and one of the leading Swedish contemporary dramatic authors, particularly known for very successful adaptations of drama classics for the young audience, whose adaptation of Shakespeare's Hamlet (In the Shadows of Hamlet), performed by Young Dramaten, the Belgrade audience had the opportunity to see at the TIBA Festival in 2006.

PAOLO NANI TEATER
KOPENHAGEN, DANSKA/COPENHAGEN, DENMARK

Pismo, Paolo Nani i Nulo Faćini
The Letter, Paolo Nani and Nullo Facchini

reditelj/director: Nullo Facchini

igra/cast: Paolo Nani

O predstavi

U njoj Nani kombinuje mimiku, studiju komičnog tajminga i ritma, parodiju žanrova i narativnih stilova, klovniranje, žongliranje i akrobatiku..."

About the play

In his performance The Letter, people laugh and laugh: there's virtually not a single moment in which people are not laughing. More than one journalist wrote that at the end of The Letter they found themselves with aching hands, aching stomach, for the clapping and compulsive laughing during the show. The Letter is the result of years of adjustments of timing, and study of the details. It is written in one of the critics: '"The Letter" is not only one of the funniest shows around, it is also a miniature anthology of comedy, a manifesto of laughter. In it Nani combines mime, the study of comic timing and rhythm, a parody of genres and narrative styles, clowning, juggling, and acrobatics.'

O predstavi

Iskoristivši motive slavne bajke Braće Grim "Bremenski svirači", nastaje originalno delo, nošeno i dalje osnovnom porukom bajke da zajedničkom saradnjom i razvijanjem mašte možemo ostvariti i najluđe snove.

VIB Animals is an authorial project of Ksenija Zec and Saša Božić, an exciting travel, which speaks of a series of ordinary and extraordinary scenes from the life of adolescents and animals.
A boy Kuna dreams of making a rock band that would conquer the music world. For the beginning one must find musicians and the lead singer. Kuna chooses his friends from school, with whom he forms the band. With the appearance of the talented lead singer come the troubles within the group. Will the newly founded band: VIB Animals fall apart at the beginning of its career, or will its members still apply for the local rock band competition and become famous?
Calling on the motifs of the famous Grimm Brothers' fairytale: The Musicians of Bremen, an original work is created, carried forward by the basic message of a fairytale that joint cooperation and development of imagination can make the wildest dreams come true.
The specificity of this play is the use of particular acting technique, which originates from the study of anatomy and animal movement, and enables the actors to transmit the universal idea of the play by using emphasized body language, imagination and amusement.

Trešnjin ansambl čine najtraženiji glumci u Hrvatskoj, a predstave stvaraju vrhunski umetnici poput Dore Ruždjak Podolski i Renea Medvešeka. Mjuzikli "Lepotica i Zver" i "Svaki pas ima svoj dan" u režiji Dore Ruždjak Podolski, i predstave "Oliver Tvist" i "Ne, prijatelji" u režiji Renea Medvešeka ponovo otvaraju vrata odrasloj publici.

About the Theater

At the location of today's Tresnja Theater, back in 1954, there was the Pioneer Amateur Theater. After more than three hundred performances, it transforms into a professional theater in 1969, and changes its name to Tresnjevka Small Theater. This meant cooperation with the greatest names of the Croatian acting scene and exceptional directors. About ten years later, it gave life to the constant acting ensemble, and the crew of technical associates kept on growing. In the beginning of 1980s, the theater gets its current name, the Tresnja Theater, and besides plays for children, it also develops the evening stage. In 1999, at the same location, the Tresnja gets a new, bigger building, and today is one of the most special constructions in Zagreb. Each theater season, following a careful selection of titles and directors, gives life to new plays, with an educational-upbringing role, but also with a mission to cheer up children's everyday routine, and encourage imagination and creativity. The Tresnja ensemble includes the most wanted actors in Croatia, and the plays are made by the exceptional artists such as Dora Ruzdjak Podolski and Rene Medvesek. The play "Beauty and the Beast" achieved inconceivable success with the audience and the critique, and broke all viewer records in various world metropolises. It won six acting awards in different categories. Musicals "Beauty and the Beast" and "Every Dog has its Day" directed by Dora Ruzdjak Podolski, and plays "Oliver Twist" and "No, Friends" directed by Rene Medvesek again open the doors to the adult visitors.

O predstavi

About the play

The play "In the Labyrinth of Sexuality" is created for young people, who are no longer children, but are not yet adults. It is meant to open the grounds for discussion on sexuality, primarily in the family, and then also amongst peers. In this way, proper climate is created to allow the young people to approach their sexuality and future sexual experience openly and with plenty of useful information, without prejudice and frustrations. We wished to help the young people to express and develop their feelings, capabilities, and positions, and acquire humane and moral beliefs. On this path we were helped by a great book written by Jasminka Petrović "Sex for Beginners".

About the Theater

In 2001, the JU Culture Center "Sarajevo", Jelićeva 1, formed a group called Poetski teatar mladih Juventa (The Juventa Poetic Theater of Young), which gathered high school kids under the artistic leadership of actress Jasna Diklić, who is at the same time also a director. This unique theater in Sarajevo, and more, with its idea, engagement and dedication of all participants has achieved great success, especially with the high school population. Not thinking of clichés such as the one that the world is left to the young, we wanted, and to great extent achieved, that we offer to these young people the opportunity of high quality use of free time, the possibility of own creation, because the world of theater is immeasurable in searching for new forms and models of work.
Our projects have always relied, both in terms of ideas and thematic plans, on the problems of the high school population. Thousands of young people have seen our plays, which was our basic goal. Our play "Confessions of a Junky" won the Award for best performance at the BH Festival of High School Theater in Konjic in 2004, and the "Sale of Ideals - Time of Kitsch and Trash" was awarded as the best at the same Festival in Konjic in 2006. The last play "Crossroads" which problematizes the topic of leaving BiH achieved by far the most success. It collected twelve awards in total.

O predstavi

About the play

Winter is a show thought for big stages and big spaces. This show belongs to the theatre-research-project Something is about to happen for pre-schools and elementary-schools over a period of three years 2008/2010. All the material gathered up to today has given birth to Winter, the first of two shows in the project. We've worked with children, 3 to 5 years old, in many pre-schools. The load of romanticism the children carry inside deeply moved us right away. Working on sheer improvisation, we've looked together with the children for the story to tell. Winter is a dance piece where the music, the words, and the dancing keep tight to each other, back each other up, seek after each other. And this story, like any other love story, wouldn't be worth telling without telling the fear of losing it - love.

O trupi

I koliko god pristiže.

About the Company

Compagnia Rodisio was founded in 2005 by Manuela Capece and Davide Doro, who have been working together since 1997. It takes its name from rodizio, a typical South American style of restaurant. Rodizio is a place where you meet, where you spend a nice and casual evening sitting around a table enjoying local dishes until you've eaten enough.
As long as it keeps coming. Compagnia Rodisio works both in Italy and abroad, producing shows for children and for all, designing and supervising research and training workshops with children, teenagers and adults. Its scenic language feeds off everyday life picking out its most surprising aspects to talk with irony and lightness about contemporary neurosis and distortions.
Compagnia Rodisio works with great passion, on being opened and on sharing, and wishes to keep growing amongst many different languages, cultures and audiences.

VII TIBA FESTIVAL

Reč selektora inostranog programa

PUT OKO SVETA

Oko sveta!

A Word from International Programme Selector

A JOURNEY AROUND THE WORLD

This year's international selection of TIBA wishes to present (mainly) musical and dance theatre to children and young people, a theatre that, more than anything, aims to take its audiences to interesting parts of the world that are more often than not difficult to access, and to describe the journey without too many words, rather doing it through music, rhythm and dance.

Genre wise, I wanted the shows to fit as much as possible into an evident trend, as it were, in new theatre for children and young people, which is the use of live music on stage, dance and only then - words.

The shows I selected for TIBA 2009 are a step forward in this direction. I am convinced they will communicate well with local audience consisting of children and young people, for the very reason that they speak a language more universal than verbal communication and thus much closer to younger generations.

Tiba's theatrical journey around the world takes us to many continents and portrays the basic starting point of the very purpose of creation - joy and love. We have guests from Iran with their interesting and modernised take on folklore, then we have African dances coming from Austria, as well as song and dance turned stage collaboration of theatres from Belgrade, Istanbul and Copenhagen.

Insisting on cultural diversity and celebrating this diversity in theatre for children and young people through music and dance is the basic idea of international selection of the 7th TIBA Festival.

Every goal is easier to achieve together - do join us!

Let's go on a journey!

Around the world!

Reč selektora domaćeg programa

MUZIČKO I PLESNO POZORIŠTE

A Word from the Local Programme Selector

MUSICAL AND DANCE THEATRE

Throughout the history and theory of dramatic art, musical theatre has always been considered an absolute theatre. It wasn't until relatively recently that genres such as opera, ballet or musical, unfortunately, got to be presented as an entertaining diversion from classical drama. How many times have we heard phrases such as 'It's musical, it's not serious theatre' or 'Aw, it's only a play with some songs and dancing'. We tend to forget that some of the greatest dramatic works, from antiquitiy, through Elizabethan period, all the way to contemporary theatres worldwide, proudly belong to the very category of musical theatre.

Such plays are more complex, significant and intense than any other, the story is told on several levels, and every one of them - verbal, musical, visual - conveys its message to the audience equally convincingly.

If the audience consists of children, a play's mission to tell a clear story with a clear idea is even more important. The verbal will not always reach children in the right way: some dry, long lines will not be tolerated as they would by among the already trained adults, the youngest ones always expect more. The katharsis that is so very necessary, katharsis they may well be the only ones capable of, will preserve all of its power through music and movement more than anything else.

Local productions that represent such aspects of playing at this year's Tiba are: "The Book of Wandering" by Little Theatre "Dusko Radovic", "Little Mermaid" by "Bosko Buha" Theatre, "Magic Flute" by Tiny Theatre "Puz" and "Bastien and Bastienne" by Puppet Theatre "Pinocchio".

"The Book of Wandering" is a play that communicates with every age group possible due to its expressed symbolism and the universal subject of quest. Through some very simple means, albeit used in a magic way, the play has a beauty everyone will enjoy.

"Little Mermaid" is a play with characteristics that can compete with any Broadway production. We see the well known story of love and sacrifice (because children need some sad endings to) through excellent visual design and exceptional musical/choreographic numbers.

"The Magic Flute", even though almost completely unrelated to the famous masterpiece by Mozart, along with being equally entertaining for both the young ones and their parents (in the well known manner of "Puz" theatre), speaks of an important issue of growing up - the hero sets out on his journey into the world to find himself a girlfriend.

Unlike "The Magic Flute", "Bastien and Bastienne" adheres to Mozart's first opera in a simplified but consistent way. This production has a unique blend of musical and puppet theatre and thus represents a step forward in its theatrical expression.
Furthermore, Mozart's age at the time the opera was created was the same as that of its today's spectators, making this the right way for young audience to be initiated into the world of opera and musical genres.

MIRACLE
TEATREGRUPPEN BATIDA - KOPENHAGEN, DANSKA
IMMCT - ISTANBUL, TURSKA

MIRACLE
TEATREGRUPPEN BATIDA - COPENHAGEN, DENMARK
IMMCT - ISTANBUL, TURKEY
"BOSKO BUHA" THEATRE - BELGRADE, SERBIA

"Miracle" is a story about a Kingdom, full of restrictions, in which life is regulated by traffic signs, and everything is about preserving the impeccably organised system. The rulers of this "perfect", strictly controlled country, are The King and The Queen, who both do their best to suppress their humanity, until they forget who they really are.

But, it is impossible to keep suppressing the human in humans, their nature which always tends to be irrational, creative, unpragmatic, and seemingly crazy. It will find its way to affect one's life, if not in an ordinary, then in a completely unusual way. A miraculous way. And indeed, thanks to a wonderous adventure including the little Princess, still a free-spirited child, and her Governess, a person obliged to bring her up and make her the future queen, the Kingdom is about to change forever.

"Miracle" is a story about the Governess's curious change of heart, about her transit from a loyal servant of the system to a rebel, and about a seemingly helpless child, who helps her become a real human being. This story is told and played for the audience by an uncommon group of actors, made from persons who all said "no" to all kinds of restrictions, and, as clowns, accepted their own absurdness, their imperfection, and their, for some people, funny and insane, but so very precious freedom - freedom to keep the humanity in themselves.

KNJIGA LUTANJAspec

THE BOOK OF WANDERING psec
LITTLE THEATRE "DUSKO RADOVIC" - BELGRADE, SERBIA
"The Book of Wandering" is an intimate dance spectacle. Through synergy of recognisable elements, nature, human, animal and surreal creatures, an impression of constant intertwining of phenomena and identities is created. These metamorphoses are related to continual shifts of energy, seasons, birth and death. Wandering is what lies in between: how a seed sprouts into a plant, how rain comes to be from the clouds, what stages of development living things go through. In this case wandering itself is the goal. Through various writings, fairy tales and even some intimate experiences of the performers themselves, aimless wandering is examined, the overlapping, coming and going, searching, letting go.

STARAC I CVET

I Oskar Olson gleda televiziju svakog dana i svake noći.

THE OLD MAN AND THE FLOWER
PYGMETEATERN - STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN

If you were an old fellow, your name might vell be Oskar Olsson. And if you had a place to live, it could be in a gloomy little apartement, without a single flower. And that is exactly what Oskar Olsson does! In his livingroom there is an old TV. And Oskar Olsson is watching it every day and every night. In that way he doesn't have to think about the fact that he doesn't have any mates anymore, and that life is rather dull and lonely.

In the old days things were different, when Oskar Olsson was at sea. Then he could dance the Hula-hula in Hawai, with a  garland of flowers around his neck.

Today there is only the TV.

But what would happen if the TV exploded one day...?

And the doorbell rang, and the delivery boy handed over a flower...?

It will all be revealed in this astonishing story!

MALA SIRENA

... 'Mala sirena' priča priču o tome kako je svaka prava ljubav večna", zapisao je reditelj Milan Karadžić.

LITTLE MERMAID
"BOSKO BUHA" THEATRE - BELGRADE, SERBIA

In her play, the well renowned Russian playwright preserved the sad ending from the Andersen's original, in which the Marmaid turns into sea foam, because of her unrealised love for the prince. But, this tragedy-like tale was turned into a rock-musical in Buha Theatre's rendition, in order to make it more easily acceptable for children. "Razumovska managed to point out to us how fantastic and grand a feeling love is, larger than life itself. 'Little Mermaid' tells the story of how every true love lasts forever", wrote the director Milan Karadzic.

AFRICAN FAIRYTALES gpas
DSCHUNGEL WIEN, THEATRE FOR YOUNG AUDIENCE - WIEN, AUSTRIA

Fairytales, myths, stories. they all accompany us through our lives.
For some stages in our lives they have a higher importance than elsewhere, such as during our childhood. Although they are more involved in some cultures than in others, you will find them all around the world.

In "Afrikanische Märchen" the Ensemble IYASA from Zimbabwe provides an insight into traditional fairytales and stories from Grandmas time. They also remind us of adventures from the own childhood. Games, dances and songs will be shown that children still perform nowadays in the streets of Bulawayo.

The long tradition of music in Africa, especially song & dance as a form of expression, is carried forward by IYASA in an impressing way. With strong voices and moving dances, emotions will be imparted, which cannot be described in a linguistic manner.

All the stories are narrated with huge bags, filled sacks and cases in between two worlds, in between beginning and ending. and again beginning.

U ovim 'životima i smrtima' odjekuju svi drugi." -Roberto Kalaso

RAPSODIA PER GIGANTI sa2
TRICKSTER TEATRO - NOVAZZANO, SWITZERLAND

"The characters of myths live many lives and die many deaths', on the contrary the characters of novels are bound to one single role. Resounding in these 'lives and deaths' are all the other ones." - Roberto Calasso

"Rapsodia per giganti" is a duet on stilts in open spaces. The roots of this duet are found in the vast territory between myth and fairytale.

Two huge characters from the past appear at the ruble of drums ... dances open and like in an old pack of cards the stories criss-cross and merge together, unravel and mingle again, on the edge of the eternal line between Eros and Thanatos.

The composition of the piece is not guided by a single fabula, individual episodes with their beginnings and their endings - but by a general atmosphere: the aura of strength and wonder that permeates the whole area between myth and fairytale and makes all that is human fleeting, short-lived and disarmingly small. Therefore, the performers are losing their 'humanity' by transforming themselves into characters coexisting as their own opposites and negations.

In this interpretation, narrative structure is abandoned in favour of intertwining and logical unwinding of created images based on associations.

VI TIBA FESTIVAL

Kaleidoscope
Kaleidoscope is an optical device in the shape of a tube, with three or more flat mirrors assembled at a convenient angle, that enable objects, usually pieces of multicoloured glass, to mirror in many symmetrical figures. The mirrors are adjusted in such a way as to make even a slight change in the position of the pieces of glass render interesting symmetrical images in myriad of colours. It is also called Myrriomorphoscope.

It got its name from its inventor (Sir David Brewster of Scotland) who came up with the concept for the first time while he was experimenting with prisms and optical instruments in 1816, and the translation of its basic meaning in Greek is ‘a beautiful form to behold’.

Kaleidoscope presentation is a collection of images, colours and links with various subjects. It was conceived as a whole that includes material of mutable nature. Within it, at the slightest movement of mirrors, its contents are transformed both in subject and in the fact that it often happens that the contents changes its meaning and creates it anew. It is subject to changes, but it also retains its fundamental principle of symmetry.

CCC nudi putovanje culima unutar pozorisnog okruzenja, inspirisano arhitekturom japanskih basti. Japanske baste su same po sebi jedna vrsta pricanja prica.

CCC proposes a sensorial journey inside theatrical environments inspired by the architecture of Japanese gardens. Japanese gardens are a form of story-telling in themselves. Bonsais, stones, water plays, ‘lost steps’, the zen garden and other scenarios related with them, start from a work of miniaturization and reconstruction of nature through a coded system of symbols and metaphors. CCC is composed of five little gardens and each of them proposes an exploration, at times individual, at times in groups: a meadow, a lake, a bridge, flowers, the sea. Each of these environments develops a theatrical action based on the acoustic and playful relationship with natural elements. The gardens (composed of images projected from the top onto a white carpet provided with pressure sensors) open up, suggest games, create an interactive contact, communicate in the form of visual poetry thorough images and sounds animated in real time. The public is given ample freedom to find their own approach to the exploration and play. There are no strict rules, times or ways. CCC is digital-natural environment devised to give theatrical value to movement and spontaneous action. In our project we have indeed created five little gardens, each of which proposes different sensory and perceptive modes

Od dubina mora do luckog kafea, oluja i brodoloma, ritmickih eksplozija i trenutaka poezije, izliva energije i daska emocija, cetiri coveka plove kroz cudnovati svet mora gde se suptilno preplicu muzika, pozoriste i akrobatika.
S ivice pristana, zov mora je takodje i zov maste.

Iz kritika:

More, ples i muzika hrane sanjarije. Trenuci humora i lepote ostavljaju i odrasle i decu bez reci, oni su fascinirani prelepimi tajanstvenim casom tanane i tesko uhvatljive lepote . Ova vesta mesavina pozorista, plesa i naizgled spontane muzike, koju nam nudi Trupa Caree Blanc, budi cula i mastu za zov daha mora...

CARRE BLANC, FRANCE
THE BIG WILD OCEAN
Text
From the depths of the sea to a portside cafe, storms and shipwrecks, rhythmic explosions and moments of poetry, outpourings of energy, a breath of emotion, four men navigate a strange sea world where music, theater, dance, and acrobatics subtly entwine.
From the dock’s edge, the call of the sea is also the call of the imagination.
Press clipping
The sea, dance and music feed reverie. Moments of humor and beauty render both adults and children speechless, fascinated by a sublime and mysterious instant of evanescent grace. This skillful mix of theater, dance and seemingly spontaneous music, presented by the Company Carre Blanc, awakens the senses and the imagination to the call of the sea air...

Sinopsis – rijec pisca:

Djeca i odrasli! S jedne strane vi, a s druge mi! Medutim, djetinjstvo nije vjecno i jednoga dana cete odrasti. Krug se nastavlja. Ali sta biva ako prije toga dana, djeca i odrasli zamjene pozicije? Sigurno neka davolja posla?...

TOM SAWYER and Devil’s Business
After the story by Mark Twain
Directed by Nikola Vukcevic

Synopsis – Playwright’s Note:

Tom Sawyer and Devil’s Business is a story in which two worlds collide, very different and yet closely connected. Children and grown ups! From a child’s perspective, anything goes in the world of grown ups. And from the perspective of grown ups, children’s world is easily controlled by sanctions and prohibitions. Children are, therefore, in an inferior position, and the grown ups in a superior one. So, children, that’s how it always has been and how it always will be! You on one side, us on the other! We know what’s best for you, you have no business thinking or speaking up! However, childhood is not eternal and one day you will grow up too. The circle continues. But what happens if children and grown ups swap places before that day arrives? It must be some devil’s business.

“Mischief Makers” is a contemporary comedy written by Ivana Dimic. It adopts characters from Jovan Jovanovic Zmaj’s poetry for children: Pura Moca, unprepared Ana, Ludi Tola (Crazy Tola), Lenji Gasa (Lazy Gasha), Laza mommy’s little son. The play tells a story about naughty children and their strict and unfair teacher. It is set in 1878, in Belgrade. The Teacher, being warned that the School Inspector is about to pay a visit to his school, starts beating and punishing children. That makes them become real bullies, they steal his school register, lie to him and, in nutshell, they engage in all sorts of mischief. In the end, justice wins, but only just, and the comedy warns us that children are good unless we spoil them.

Ocaravajuci svet narodnih bajki

Svesno i nesvesno, narodne bajke upoznaju nas s pravom prirodom zivota.

The enchanted world of folk tales

The enchanted world of folk tales, with their princesses and evil stepmothers, magic forests and wise old kings has been an integral part of childhood for hundreds of years. And as children, listening to folk tales is how we first learn to tell stories about the mysteries of the world we live in, and about our own baffling thoughts and emotions.

Consciously and unconsciously folk tales introduce us to the realities of life. They encourage us to celebrate the freedom and the joy of our imaginations. But they also tell us what we instinctively know, that not all men are good, that we can all be greedy, and that life involves struggle.

Jacob and Wilhelm, the brothers Grimm, collected and wrote the most popular and most famous collection of folk tales in the world. They were experts in presenting only the most essential information to allow the story to be told. They believed in the power of imagination and they knew the importance for children of facing the realities of life. And in our production, we have attempted to be true to their vision.

Bajke Brace Grim

Kroz bajku dete upoznaje zivot i razaznaje dve najvece vrednosti u njemu - dobro i zlo. Sukob dobra i zla odreduje smisao zivota i svih stvari.

Grimm Brothers' Fairytales

By the beauty of their literary expression, Grimm Brothers' Fairytales belong among the most beautiful artistic fairytales. There are no stories in the world that can so powerfully engross and excite children's imagination like Cinderella, Hansel and Gretel, The Golden Goose. Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm, the great contemporaries of German literary, philosophic and musical classical heritage, with their spirit bridged the time between ancient myths and today's heroes of video games. That is why these fairytales, with no exaggeration whatsoever, can be classified among the greatest literary treasure for children.

Many children have grown up with these wonderful fairytales. Every child wishes to see the magical shoe Cinderella lost running away from the ball. For this reason there are numerous versions of it in theatre and on film, because each generation is entitled to satisfy this great children's need to see their own Cinderella on the stage or film...

Fairytales as a literary genre have an enormous significance in child's development. Through fairytales, children learn about life and distinguish between two most important values in it – the good and the bad. The clash between the good and the bad determines the sense of life and all things.

What the shoe will be like in this performance depends on the director Mick Gordon and his costume designer Maja Mirkovic. This performance will, I am convinced, be unique according to many standards, among other, because it is founded on an exceptionally exciting, imaginary and almost unreal dramatization.

Kako stici do Brojlanda? Naravno s brojkama i malo maste.
A zasto?

How do you get to Numberland? With numbers, of course, and just a bit of imagination.
And why? Because there we can see that 2 and 2 do not always make 4, and that you can build a plane, a car, a train, a teddy, a monkey, a duck and sometimes even a policeman out of numbers. It's only the playful Zero that doesn't fit into all those numbers, but enjoys its games and playing tricks on others more than it enjoys being with no value and no place in the world of numbers. However, through harmonious play of other numbers, and some convincing, Zero will discover that it is indeed valuable and needed when brought together with them.
Numberland resembles our own world, as well as the world in which we resemble numbers, when we lack feelings, laughter and playing.

Veceraju uz svece i crno vino.
Onda muskarac izvadi poklon.
Ona ga gleda srcolikim ocima, a on se samo smesi ko kreten.
Onda se poljube i vencaju se.
A onda njihov ljubavni san bude krunisan dolaskom jedne prelepe devojcice.
Plavokose, druzeljubive, puna energije, vrlo snalazljive, izdrzljive, veoma aktivne i vrlo, vrlo, vrlo inteligentne.

So.
There were a man and a woman.
The man who is romantic and knows his way around, brings the woman in a nice restaurant.
They have dinner with candles and red wine.
Then the man takes out a gift.
She looks at him with heart shaped eyes and he keeps smiling as an idiot.
Then they kiss and they get married.
And then, their love dream is being crowned with the arrival of a beautiful little girl.
Blond, friendly, full of energy, very resourceful, tenacious, very active and very, very, very intelligent.
So, those who were only a man and a woman quickly became a beautiful dad and a beautiful mom.
That is, a family.
And everything moves on as it should.
And everything is well.

When thinking of our family, how many people do we actually think of?
Do we think of a special day?
Do we think of a holiday?
Do we think of every day, of those days that are always the same?
Do we think of those goodnight words?
When thinking of our family, what do we think of?
We do ask ourselves of how much family is needed,
Of how much we cannot do without, of how much of it there is.
And then we ask ourselves where all this love is ending up.
And what if we needed more people to give love to, more people to take it from,
Would the family, then, be enough?

CRVENE, CRVENE CIPELE /
RED, RED SHOES
Consol Theater

CRVENE, CRVENE CIPELE
naprotiv, u sobi bez zidova. Njena traumaticna prica pronalazi svoj glas, svoj oblik, detaljni slikoviti
prikaz uz pomoc doktora – mozda psihijatra?

Dramaturg: Christiane Freudig
Rezija: Andrea Kramer
Igraju: Svenja Niekerken, Eva Horstmann, Fabian Sattler, Markus Kirschbaum

RED, RED SHOES
Franvera, the young girl at the heart of this play, has a powerful dream to be a dancer.
Single-mindedly pursuing her dream, she barely sees the war clouds gathering around her. Forced to
flee from her village, Franvera is poised between life and death. As the play unfolds though, it appears
that she is not in her home village with her family, on the march with Red Beard and other refugees,
fleeing through a forest, climbing a mountain to reach the border – she is, instead, in a room without
walls. Her traumatic tale is finding its voice, its shape, its stark imagery with the aid of
a doctor – maybe a therapist?

HOW TONKICA USED TO BUY BREAD
The first contact of a child with the world, initiation into the world of adults and rules of grown-up
behaviour in the life of a child usually occur at the moment of the child's first shopping all alone.
This event is particularly important for the child. It is of epic proportions and it can hardly be forgotten.
The excitement is huge – the need to get dressed, to tie the shoelaces (proof of being sufficiently
grown up), carefully do the hair and even more carefully put the wallet with extremely precious 5 kunas
in a safe place.

The elegiac story about the love of the Little Prince towards his small planet B 612 and the single rose
on it, utterly unique for him, is a serious warning to the whole world. While living in the desert,
the Little Prince has learnt from the Fox the greatest wisdom that love, gentleness, friendship, peace
and tolerance are the most precious things in life. This is that same old wisdom preached by our
prophets of the Old Testament and the New Testament.

If we wish to live a life flooded with sunlight, as the old Fox would put it, we should forever remember
its secret which is quite simple: Man sees well only with his heart – it is impossible to see the essence
with one's eyes.

IV TIBA FESTIVAL

Teatarsku Internacionalnu Beogradsku
Avanturu.

Uživajte u dobrim predstavama i vec tradicionalnoj Tibinoj gostoprimljivosti...

IV TIBA FESTIVAL

...On an autumn night of 2002, during the “Milk Tooth” Festival in Zagreb, when around 04:30
in the morning I came to an idea that our Belgrade could also have an international theater
adventure for children, I could not have dreamed that four years later I would be proudly
looking at how TIBA keeps growing, and how gradually it is taking a significant position in the
calendar of world festivals for children and young people. This is substantiated by the large
number of our guests coming from all over the world, as well as the arrival of currently most
important theater companies from Ireland, Sweden, Denmark, Croatia, Russia,
Republic of Srpska...

Under favor of the City Council as the founder and sponsor, and the “Boško Buha” Theater
as the organizer, we are proud to present to you the Fourth Theater International Belgrade
Adventure.

We do our best to make each TIBA have something specific and different from the previous
ones. This fourth one, aside from many surprises, will be remembered by one particular
performance, which can be seen by a great number of people, and which is played in its
natural ambience, in the water...

This is an opportunity for all of us to see where we stand in relation to the world, and where
the world stands in relation to us, when it comes to theaters for children and young people.

Enjoy the fine performances and the already traditional TIBA hospitality...

i njegovim drugarima.

Directed by: Marc Van Der Velden
Set Design: Igrid Bennike

Cast: Pio Simonsen (violin), Sřren Mřller Pedersen (drums)

Elephant lives alone in his comfortable apartment. Nobody lives next door. But one day there's a
suitcase outside the door and that makes Elephant happy. Somebody is moving in and that means
he's getting a new neighbour.
Elephant's new neighbour is called Crocodile. He is a musician and he practises for hours every
day. Scales and etudes from Crocodile's violin can be heard through the wall between the two
apartments every day. It is getting on Elephant's nerves so much that he feels he is losing his
mind. When he finally pulls himself together and complains about the noise, Crocodile simply
answers, “I am very sorry, dear neighbour, but I am an artist and I cannot live without my music”.
Elephant shuffles off sadly. “I wish I was an artist”, he thinks. But then he gets an idea…
Elephant and Crocodile is a modern animal fable, almost without words, but with lots of humour,
mime and music. This little, philosophical tale of discord and harmony is based on a picture book
by the Dutch writer and illustrator Max Velthuijs, who is known, among other things, for the books
on Frog and his friends.

ucinio ga savremeno pitkim, dodavši mu narativnu srocnost.

Having chosen the “secondary” literary source, Andrej Rozman versified Grimm's text, and
made it contemporarily fluent, adding the narrative rhymes. A disarmingly witty performance,
Waltl's fairytale starts from explicitly dimensional characters that develop into generators of
the linear story focusing on the surroundings and the goal they must reach.

The show came to life as an attempt to make a kind of a surreal children's merry-go-round, a
carrousel, in which verbal tricks, such as complex mathematical formulas of Louis Carroll, are
expressed by movement and body language.
In a nightmare of a mischievous girl, with each new circle and every new equation, there are
first and new life experiences, and however they might seem dangerous or scary, they are in
fact real.
Perhaps this play, using music, movement and dance, a different kind of approach to children's
plays, would be one of the ways to contribute to the understanding of a world seen through
children's eyes.

Helga Ana Gruber, Toihaus Salcburg

KIKI AND BOZO is about the confrontation with death, about the last journey, about the correcting mistakes at the point when one has to sum up his life. Old man Bozo and the girl Kiki find themselfs near the sea. Bozo is trying to reach the sea to die, and Kiki had escape from everyone becouse she is horrified by the death of the dog Nini. Thay are spending a little time together, but it is quite enoughfor them to realize not only what dying is, but also what are friendship and love. Orchestra whitch constantly playing on the stage is representing Bozos soul. he is eventually transcending his soul to Kiki and with this gesture he is not only prolanging his own life but he also giving a priceless value of understanding of shortness and imperfection of human existence. KIKI AND BOZO resembles the concept of life and death in the Zen philosophy and it is also lagerly influenced by the Beckett concept of nothingness. Becouse of all taht, this play is by all criteria exceptional, gentle and quiet.

Without words, through movement and dance, in a poetic manner, we tell children that they should not argue and figh, for we can hurt someone and couse them pain. Through the dolls wich come alive and rise against violence, we tell the children that they should be nice to the world around us, as that is the waz we make it nicer.

What we kept from Andersens nice story is an unavoidable pea, but there are obligatory novelties: two kings, two princes, and three princesses. The question is which one will get her prince?

II TIBA FESTIVAL

Lutkovno gledališce Ljubljana, Slovenija
PERSEJ
Ona nestrpljivo docekuje pocetak predstave i dolazak Perseja – tog hrabrog princa, koji ce odseci glavu strašnoj Meduzi, pobediti morsko cudovište i spasiti lepu princezu Andromedu.

PERSEUS
A six-year-old girl comes to the puppet theatre for the first time, and she is very excited. Impatiently she awaits the beginning of the show and the arrival of Perseus the brave prince, who is to cut off the head of the horrible Medusa, win over the sea monster and rescue the beautiful princess Andromeda. He will, along the way, as all princes who rescue princesses, rescue her, won't he? Furthermore, since all the princes in real theatre are real, live people, not like the ones on television...
A new, ironic and funny reading of myths is a characteristic of this performance.

NEW INTERNATIONAL ENCOUNTER
MOJE DUGO PUTOVANJE KUCI
V.Britanija, Poljska, Ceška, Norveška, Francuska /
Great Bretain, Poland, Czech Republic, Norway, France
Rekao sam Ťnemojte me tuci, ja sam Andras, sin kovacať ali me nisu razumeli.

MY LONG JOURNEY HOME
ŤI went into a farmyard to look for water, it was full of Russian soldiers, I smiled at them, they smiled back. I took one step and then they were on me, kicking, punching, shouting. I said Ťdon't beat me I'm Andras the blacksmith's sonť but they didn't understand. One of them raised his rifle butt and brought it down on the side of my face... and then I passed outť.
NIE uses the story of Andras Tamas as a starting point, Andras fought in the Hungarian Army alongside the Germans in World War II, he was captured by the Russians and lost in a Russian mental hospital for 53 years. He returned home in 1999 to a heroes welcome. Moving back and forward in time we travel across Europe as our hero, caught by the wind of history struggles to find his way back home, to the warm bath that he left behind and to his one true love.

SNEŽANA I SEDAM PATULJAKA
Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm
Postavka Snežane i sedam patuljaka ostavlja otvorena vrata da bajka govori svojim univerzalnim arhetipskim jezikom. Jezikom, u kojem deca govore, a odrasli cute u strahu i nadi.
Bajka o moci i bespomocnosti zla.

SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN DWARFS
The staging of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs leaves the door open for the fairy tale to speak with its universal archetypal language. A language, in which children get to talk, and adults are silent with fear and hope. Snow White addresses us with the poetic language and symbolism of the unconscious. It speaks the language of the fairy story with the fairy-tale language of the stage, without burdening itself with interpretations or reinterpretations. The language of Snow White allows imagination to wonder freely in order to speak to us about a world torn between good and evil, about a world where evil is born from narcissism and unsatisfied ego, as well as to whisper to us about the forces of evil, and the rescuing power of love.
Snow White in Taufer's direction is a fairy tale about gazing at one's own elusive image in the mirror of desire. A fairy tale about the power and powerlessness of evil. A fairy tale about the apple of recognition and about the kiss, which (at least this is how the fairy tale encourages us), even has the powers of bringing one back to life.

THE SWING
ŤThe Swingť by Edno Mzy is a story about the children who are growing up surrounded by violence, for whom violent communication is ordinary and everyday, and who thus cannot separate the notion of violence from the notion of any kind of relationship between two human beings... It is a story of repressive and militant societies, as is of course the Israeli, but none the less ours as well... The story of ŤThe Swingť is existentialistic in the sense that the children, who are facing the void of everyday life, hanging around the corners, and the great amount of spare time that needs to be filled, reach for violence as the model of behavior that they find most clear.

I TIBA FESTIVAL

POMERANJA

Igor Bojovic
selektor

I TIBA FESTIVAL

MOVEMENTS
The objective of this year's selection of the TIBA Festival was to provide an overview of repertoire tendencies that have been popular in the past few years on the European stages, and which, due to the unfortunate circumstances in which we lived, have not been available to the Belgrade audience. Therefore, this year's selection of performances has not been linked to a certain author's line, but it consists of three corpuses of various performances.

The first group comprises dramatic performances for children, set according to motifs of classic fairytales and myths, slassic dramatic literature, as well as their Ťnew readingsť (Chekhov's ŤKashtankať, Collodi's ŤPinocchioť, a slightly different Perrault's ŤPuss in Bootsť, ŤPerseusť by Lutkovno gledališce from Ljubljana, and ŤCaptain John Peoplefoxť by Djecije pozorište Republike Srpske).

The second group of performances comprises projects that belong to the nonverbal dance theatre, dominated by movement and animation as basic expression tools (ŤSnow White and the Seven Dwarfsť Slovensko mladinsko gledališce, Ljubljana, Slovenia; ŤDie Einen und die Anderen The Ones and the Othersť Compagnie Smafu, Austria).

The third, most provocative group of performances comprises projects that bring about the question of Ťwhat is for children, and what isn'tť, performances that push the boundaries of perception, which in this programme are meant for teenagers and the so-called Ťyouth theatreť, but which are at numerous European stages seen by children of younger age, facing the Ťseriousť topics regarding the problemes of growing up, alienation, splitting of families, death... all the things that, under dictatorship of the cruel pace of a modern man's life, they will soon have to accept and recognize as part of their lives (ŤThe Swingť Malo pozorište ŤDuško Radovicť, ŤMy Long Journey Homeť NEW INTERNATIONAL ENCOUNTER).

These three groups of performances can certanly determine the thematic circles of discussions that are to be organized during the Festival, with the following topics:

1. Classic fairytale, classic dramatic literature for children, myths, and their Ťnew readingsť on our and European stages
2. Nonverbal theatre for children
3. ŤYouth Theatreť, Ťinfaceť performances for children

I believe that the Festival should be opened by the last year's winning performance ŤHenry Vť by mala scena from Zagreb, so that our audience would once again have the opportunity to see this significant performance. I also believe that our regular practice should be that the Festival be opened by the performance that won the Grand Prix the previous year.

I consider the thematic-edeal Ťmovementsť reached by our theatre, in comparison with the European repertoire of theatres for children, to be the success of the two-year work of the Festival. The very feedback of the Festival, its impact on the opening of our theatres toward the new tendencies (which, by the way, have not been new to the world for a long time), justifies its existence.

Respectfully,

BURA

THE TEMPEST
Prospero, a Duke of Milan, whose authority is overthrown thanks to his brother's betrayal and greediness, is taken alone with his daughter to the open sea and then imprisoned. At one moment, Prospero, with help from his prisoner and debtor, ghost Ariel, creates the tempest. Everyone at open sea falls into his power. This is where the main plot begins, where we meet all the characters, their behaviors, and interactions and the whole story ends happily. The synopsis of ŤThe Tempestť is shortened, but thanks to the director's intervention, the viewer will get an in depth look into this great Shakespeare masterpiece.

CAREV VODONOŠA I CAR BUMBAR

CAREV VODONOŠA I CAR BUMBAR En
This story about the Bumblebee-Emperor assures us that noone, not even an Emperor who has everything and rules over everyone, can be really happy. That is why he takes a long journey, together with his ministers, captain, cook, sailors and the water-carrier, going far away to propose to a princess. When Nastasja's heart rejects him and chooses his water-carrier, the Emperor finally changes his ways, stops being spoiled, stubborn and arrogant, which then changes the whole ending of this fairy tale, making everyone, every single one of them, live happily ever after.

HOBIT

HOBBIT

The Hobbits are a humble and also very ancient nation, who existed before in far greater numbers than today. Because they like peace, quiet, and well handled soil; a nice, tidy and well- cultivated rural scene is their favorite residence. They have never understood or liked any machines more complex then a blacksmith's bellows, a windmill, or a loom, even though they are very handy with tools. Even in the old days they were always wary of ŤBig Peopleť, as they refer to us. At the present time, they are terrified of us and avoid us at all costs, making it very hard for us to find them.

JULIJA I ROMEO

JULIET AND ROMEO
Romeo and Juliet represent a special love case in Shakespeare's writings, following the author's ambition to reveal man's desire for the absolute, where love is, of course, the manifestation of that absolute. Romeo and Juliet's love is not tragic just because of what is happening in Verona and in between their two families, or the obstacles of hatred that divide them. Their love is tragic because it is so grand that the whole world is too small for it! Many years after, Branko Milicevic – Kockica brings this story to us in his own way, in this version for both young and old, liberaterd from all the blood and pain of tragedy. He made it a story about love, like a sparkly and swift comedy of characters, as some ancient story that has all the elements of what exsists today.

But, that is not all. Ahavzi the witch is also after him, wanting back her magical objects.

SEX FOR BEGINNERS

Theatre play ŤSex for beginnersť, just like the book on which it was based, communicates with the adolescents from 10 to 16 years of age in a very modern and humorous way. At the same time it gives all the most important information about sexual culture, and also equally as important, about ways of protection from consequences that can emerge due to lack of information.
This is a play that in a modern, direct way, and yet carefully balanced, deals with the subject still considered to be a taboo in our society.

Nisu tamo.
Dejan Dukovski

SILJAN ŠTRKOT
Games are played, because that is just one of the ways to love. We, the adults, can hardly understand that something exists only when it is loved. If you want to have something, you only have to wish for it hard enough, and it will be yours. You can't have or not have things. You love them or you don't. I loved Siljan. That is why I have the whole story, which may have never really happened, or maybe it never happened quite this way. It happened just the way I wanted it to happen. Maybe Siljan never really was a stork, but for a brief moment, he wanted to be one, and to see the stars laughing. And then he became one. To this day, the stars follow Siljan. And me... I don't search for stars in the sky. They are not there. And you... if you wake up some day as a stork... Well, sometimes that can happen too.
